Best Of Vimeo

Living like a chamionard is an exmple of how to create your own vimeo channel, but why not use that channel and feed it into a drupal website? That would give you the opportunity to really open up the content to the search market, whilst also providing a nice, free service to both registered and unregistered users of the site.

We tried it with Best-Of-Vimeo.com, and it seems to work very well. After only 6 months, we have an ever increaing number of visitors, and generate much traiffic to the Listingslab Productions website.

Enough Already. There's work to do

Skiing got ditched in favor of keeping warm today. It's very cold up here in the mountains in the winter. -15C at the top of Grande Montets yesterday. That's finger numbingly cold. Not really the time of year for ski touring.

Today was more productively spent making this film. Mark had a journalist from a prestigious UK broadsheet on his course last week, and there's a chance this film or a part of it at least will make it onto the newspaper's website.

Now that I've got a Vimeo PLUS account I can upload full High Definition movies to the Internet. That's about 10 MB per minute of film, so it's better than having to pay for the hosting myself.

(The science bit: Because HDTV requires so much more data than normal PAL resolution TV (from the olden days of cathode ray tubes), engineers devised a way to broadcast TV signals as compressed digital information rather than directly over analog waves. They defined two video formats for HDTV called 720p and 1080i, which refer to the number of horizontal lines used to produce the image. It allows broadcast of super-sharp high definition moving images which look great on modern flat screen Televisions.)

In short, I can share large movie files with other people by uploading them to vimeo, which also produces a handy viewing page for my client.

Best-Of-Vimeo

Well, seeing as I've been launching a zillion sites and upgrading a zillion more recently (it HAS all been work, work work, you know), I quickly created and launched another one today. Best-Of-Vimeo.com.
www.Best-Of-Vimeo.com

It's a new thing - for your RSS feeder, and for somebody elses. It's the best of what I watch on vimeo. I simply blog what I think is good from vimeo and regurgitate it on a drupal 6 website

(ubercart)

As a way to buy advertising, it could be worse. As least I know my visitors more than google does.

The last time we skied

It's different at the start of the winter. Colder, more rainy & in some ways, much more fun. But you have to remeber when you last skied. For me it was back in May 2008. The Grande Montets end of season party. Fancy Dress on ice.

facebook

I'm so done with facebook. Sarah was right , it's a waste of my time. I've deactivated my account, turned off any notifications from the company and took the app off my iPhone. No more facebook for me. I'm switching my allegiance to vimeo. They're launching a premium, paid service (not unlike the flickr pro account). $60 a year sounds like a bargain to me for what's an excellent media hosting platform.I don't think I'll miss facebook.

I am so fucking sick of facebook
