Chamsick
I got a text from Sarah this morning saying she had been talking about skiing with someone and was dying to get back to Chamonix for the winter. I’ve been feeling the same. The London job is going fairly well. I’m getting into my working stride again, learning new technology skills and polishing old ones. The commute drags a little. It’s a bloody long way to Brighton, but it’s worth it to live there and spend time with Phil. I haven’t posted much for a few days because…… well, unless you fancy hearing about ActionScript 3.0’s new super-fast XML parsing technology or how AMFPHP is going to allow me to hook up a flex front end to a massively data-rich drupal installation… you’d probably be bored. Or think I’m even wierder than you already do.
So anyhoo - to cheer myself up this afternoon in that last couple of hours of office afternoon before a person can legitimately split and drink beer, I booked a flight home. I was talking with Sarah about a plan to do a guided day’s skiing every week over the season. I filled in with the posh chalet boys’ group a couple of times last year and those were undoubtably some of the best days of the winter. So I’m all fired up for the snow. And booked my flight for the 10th November. And came accross an interesting feature on the easyjet website. Carbon offsetting. I was offered the opportunity at check out to contribute £0.98 to offset the Carbon Dioxide released by the plane during my flight. I felt the shadow of the carbon jackboot fall over me. So the message is: It’s fine to fly so long as you chuck a few pennies in the tin to relieve your guilt. Did I ‘Add Carbon offsetting to my order’? Did I fuck.
