A Rock’n’ Roll week

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

What a week. Starting off with a lightning trip to Newcastle on Monday to see a faithless gig, and then Wednesday was the Boss Des Bosses competition here in Chamonix, successfully covered by Chamonix Valley. There’s a great set of pictures of the event on the site and we’ve been getting a load of extra traffic because from it.

Then it was time to get my head down and work. I’d just a couple of design jobs in on Monday on the way to Newcastle. As usual, they came with a lot of time pressure and needed to be done for Friday. So it was a long haul – 3 days straight of late nights and full days to get it all done but by 5pm on Friday I was finished and ready for a drink.

The Delice was fun last night. Once Fred had closed the bar, everyone was still in the mood for a party so we had a bit of a lock in downstairs. Didn’t leave till 5am, completely hammered and staggering all over the shop.

A long, excellent week that was – and I spend most of today (Saturday) extremely hung-over and recovering – which is what Saturday’s are for sometimes.

I’m heading off to Morzine (about an hour down the valley) tomorrow. My ski instructor training starts on Monday morning – 5 full days of ski training should be wicked. And it’s just what I need right now too. A bit of time out of the valley, lots of exercise and meeting some new people.

I’ve only been away for a little over 24hrs, but it’s snowed a lot here. Looks like there’s powder everywhere, and it should be good conditions for the Boss Des Bosses competition on the Grande Montets tommorrow. Hopefully I’ll get my car back in time. I’m getting a couple of new tyres on it after bursting one with no spare on Sunday night.

Welcome to Newcassle….

… where the weather is cold, wet and windy. So the pilot said as we landed in Newcastle this afternoon. He wasn’t wrong.

It’s fun to be back on the old stomping ground though. I was here at university a long time ago and it hasn’t changed much.

We had just enough time to check into our (very nice) hotel on grey street and find a place to have a curry for dinner before getting a cab over to the Metro Radio Arena for the faithless gig.

It went off. Really. Just brilliant - especially the fear is a weapon number. The whole place just went nuts.

Birthdays

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

It’s Sarah’s birthday today. I won’t mention which one of course – how rude that would be!

Not one to make a big deal about birthdays, Sarah’s like me in that regard. Some of us just aren’t comfortable being the centre of attention I guess. She’s doing a split shift at the restaurant today – basically that means she’s working all day, but tomorrow….. tomorrow we’re flying to Newcastle in the afternoon and going to see Faithless at the Arena, staying in a nice little hotel on Grey Street and flying home on Tuesday morning. Yippee!

Here’s us on Friday at the Aiguille Verte, Grande Montets just before skiing down with our good friend Mark. I had it printed for her as a present.
