Biggest fall ever
I’ve been stuck in front of the computer working for a while now, but took a few hours off today to go for a relaxing ski up on Grande Montets.
It was pretty nice – sunny & warm and the snow was good. But then it all went a bit pete tong when I dropped off the cat-track from the top of the bochard to take the steep mogul field down to the next track.
I fell at the top on the first turn and there was nothing I could do to stop myself sliding down the whole damn pitch on my back – skis and limbs were everywhere. I felt both skis come off but was still accelerating, sliding on my back head first. I was wondering how to stop and thought it might be an idea to protect my head a bit too. The stopping problem solved itself when I slid off the ledge that separated the slope I was on with the bottom cat track. I dropped about a meter and a half onto the flat track, stopping rather abruptly. On my head.
Amazingly I was pretty unscathed and no one else got too injured either. One lady did get walloped by my ski, but she was far too amazed to see me stand up after the fall to be annoyed with me.
So aside from a couple of bruises and a touch of concussion – I’ve survived to ski another day. That was without doubt the biggest fall I’ve ever had, though.
