One Year Chamonix Anniversary

It snowed in the valley for about a week, and studying the weather forecasts Mark and I planned ahead and cleared the diary so that we could have a proper, full day’s skiing yesterday. Blue skies and plenty of fresh snow were predicted.

We were on the Grande Montets by 9am and the sky was indeed blue. Trouble was it was a bit windy, so both the high altitude lifts were closed. We had a couple of runs on the Herse before they closed that one too and left us with the lower portion of the area to ski.

The couloirs and some other runs were fun, but around lunchtime we decided to switch mountains and headed over to the other side of the valley – Flegere - for the afternoon. A two mountain day is unusually mustard, but because it turned out to be a great move and Sarah joined us for an amazing afternoon of steep powder before the sun made the snow too heavy to ski and we called it a day and skied the bar around 4pm.

It was only when we were on our second pitcher of beer at a bar in town that I realised it was the 15th February – exactly one year since I first moved to Chamonix. A small celebration was in order. After changing clothes etc we were back in town in the evening for a few drinks and some dinner at the Bistrot des Sports. In short – it was a day to remember.

It’s been the best year of my life. Only a few others even come close – I’ve met more great people, got my Listings Lab business well underway, learned to fly, hugely improved my skiing and had more fun that I can ever remember. And best of all…. I met Sarah :)
