Backing it up

Friday, 25th August, 2006 Add Comments

My dad doesn’t have much luck with computers. He’s always breaking them and loosing all his software and photos etc. He asked me what to do about it, so I did a little research and decided on the PC Magazine editors choice award winning Ibackup. It does everything he needs to back up his home PC, even though it’s really aimed at small businesses.

It’s an Online Backup service which supports open file backups, which is perfect for backing up things like Microsoft outlook and other ‘in use’ data. It’s the best of it’s kind I found, and at only $10 per month for 5GB of backup it’s a great solution for my own small business too.

The worst climber in the UK

Friday, 25th August, 2006 Add Comments

I went to a climbing lecture the other night. Well, it’s omething different innit? Actually, the idea was to make a film of it, and I did take the camera along. Hopefully the audio will come through clearly enough for me to be able to make some kind of movie from it, the pictures won’t be any use cos the first thing the geezer did was to turn the lights off.

So anyway, it was pretty interesting. The guy is called Andy Kirkpatrick and puts himself across as the worst climber in the UK. He’s not at all – I mean sure, he’s not the best by a long shot and he’s full of stories of not quite summitting but he does some really crazy trips. He spoke about his recent Patagonia trip:

He’s a funny guy, I liked him. But the lecture theatre had a weird crowd – wild eyed climbers drinking in the experience of doing such mental mountaineering by proxy. It’s climbing porn for these guys and well…. It’s always weird watching someone else’s porn isn’t it.
