A great online backup service

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

If you need to backup your business data, but you can’t afford the risk of others getting hold of that data, then you’re going to need an encrypted online backup service. There are a few options to choose from, but the best one we have come across is Idrive-E. The online backup performance and features of IDrive-E are unsurpassed and the recent developments of near real time backup of constantly changing data such as MS Outlook data makes the service stand out.

Best of all, up to 2GB, the service can be used for free. Unlimited storage starts at $4.95 per month. It’s easy, fast and secure.

Using your phone for more than calling

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

There’s a technology which has been on the horizon for a while now. Something I’ve been very interested in. location based services. In a nutshell, your mobile phone signal can be triangulated to identify your actual location. This concept can seem slightly disturbing to some. It might have overtones of Orwellian big brother about it, but imagine this….

Emergency Number Service – say you’re in an accident and you call the Emergency services. Wouldn’t it be easier for them to find you and get help to you if they could read your exact location straight from your phone call?

Or in business. With the massive growth in delivery services due to shopping online, wouldn’t it be great to be able to monitor the location of all your delivery drivers and be able to redirect them to your customers more efficiently?

There are so many uses for this, it’s difficult to imagine that it won’t become one of the most important new technologies of the decade.

Nut huggers

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

I’m feeling a little under the weather today, so I thought I’d go to the Sports Centre in town and have a sauna. That normally sorts me out when I’m getting a cold. Trouble is… I forgot until I arrived and saw all the signs that the French have got some weird thing about board shorts being un-hygienic in pools and force everyone to wear nut-huggers.

So I had to play hide and seek with the staff, running around in my non-regulation red board shorts hiding behind doors and sneaking into the sauna rooms and whatnot. After an hour or so, when I was ready to leave anyway I got a bit blasé about my crimes and was sitting around in the relax room cooling down when sure enough some miserable jobsworth came up and told me to foxtrot oscar cos I wasn’t wearing nut-huggers.

Echo Malibu – Adolescents Treatment Program

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

Sometimes I wish I were American. When I started smoking pot, drinking and generally displaying self-destructive behaviour when I was in my teens it seemed fairly normal to me. Part of growing up. Part of growing up in the states appears to be rehab. We don’t really go in for that as much over here in Europe. It’s a shame because I think it would have really helped me avoid the problems I still have in my 30’s.

So if I were a teenager, I’d want to be in rehab here ‘Teen Rehab ECHO MALIBU’. It’s just beautiful, and it sounds like heaven. The list of activities – surfing lessons, sports, hiking, theatre outings, horse riding – all that sounds amazing, but also the Malibu teen drug treatment facility has expert staff on hand and classroom and certified teachers to make sure you don’t fall behind at school.
