Giving myself an upgrade

It’s been nearly 6 months since I’ve moved out to the alps and that means it’s time to think about what’s happened and where I’m going. So I’m sitting in the Slalom hotel bar with Mickey the manager, watching football, drinking pernod and

The work in England is an important factor of course, and it’s going better than I expected. There have been times when I thought that it wouldn’t work out, that the relationship would become untenable, but despite the problems we’ve come through them and after my trip to London this month I reckon we have got something solid enough to last another 6 months to a year. Excellent.
Living in Chamonix? I came here just as a first step out of London really. I didn’t necessarily think I’d stay forever, just get out of London and have a look round. See where I’d like to live. Turns out I really love the place. I’ve made some great friends here, and the mountain sports and lifestyle is better than I’d ever hoped for. I’m sure now that I want to live here for the next few years at least.

So I’ve just found an office to rent in town. It’s sort of a converted apartment which is now used as an office space, so myself and the team are going to be moving in there from the end of next week. Next thing is a new flat. I went to see somewhere on Friday. , somewhere further up into Les Houches, by that lake and right next to the other Les Houches ski-lift which is being upgraded this summer. It’s beautiful, with a proper bedroom with a real bed (I’ve been living in studios in loft beds for 3 years now) plenty of open plan space, good kitchen, a bath and a second bedroom with bunk beds for guests. I’m fed up of living in a rabbit hutch, I need space.

Since I’ve decided to stay here, I’m giving myself a life-upgrade. Hell, I’ve even going to get a French mobile phone on a contract – that’s how committed I am!
