A reason for being weird
I noticed that people in England think I’m weird. I’m too direct, too intense, too unforgiving, and they don’t have anything to attribute this too except for me being weird.
Living as a foreigner offers sanctuary. I can be the same person, do the same things, but there’s always something to attribute it too.
‘He’s a bit weird’
‘Yes, he’s English.’
‘Oh right, that explains it.’
Foreignness is a cloak you can wear to hide the fact that you don’t fit in anywhere. Maybe that’s why the ex-pats you meet in a places like Thailand, Goa and South America are all such a bunch of fruitloops.
